Apple Bars

1/2 cup butter
1 cup flour
1 egg, beaten
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup apples, peeled, cored and finely diced
1 cup chopped walnuts, optional
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour an 8X8 inch pan. In small saucepan, melt butter or margarine over low heat. Pour into mixing bowl and combine with other ingredients, mixing well. Pour batter into pan and bake for approximately 40 minutes, until done.
